Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing

Ice Fishing With Over 9,000 Friends.

Newsworthy items from around the world, for the Sportsman like you!

Each year, the Brainerd Jaycees $150,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza is one of the most anticipated events in the state of Minnesota. And even though its date had to be pushed back two weeks due to “inconsistent ice conditions“, over 9,000 dedicated anglers still turned out to sit on buckets while ice fishing and patiently wait for their chance at a nice catch and some serious prizes, all for fun and charity!

According to official results, 1st place went to Dan Volbert of Chaska, Minnesota. Dan’s catch was a 5.33 lb. walleye caught around the perimeter of Gull Lake. Dan used an excellent lure for ice fishing, as the fish bit on to his Rattlin’ Rapala® (hey, we sell those at Sportsman’s Guide®!). Now, for those of you that may not know the area, that is a pretty sweet catch for what you can get in Gull Lake. But think about it…the augers going, music playing, almost 10,000 people walking around and whatnot…all that hustle and bustle. There were still 980 fish caught! And for Dan, it also got him a brand-new GMC truck.

All proceeds benefit area charities, with the primary beneficiary being the Confidence Learning Center. Last year, $186,618 was raised, with over 50 charities benefiting.
