Trophy Species: False Albacore
Story: This fish won the 2014 Massachusetts Salt Water Fishing Derby, a year-long tournament, for this species in the catch & release category. It is the largest Albie ever entered in the tournament. It was my fifth and largest Albie of the day, hooked shortly after a long, downwind cast, which made for a long fight. The fish hit the lure hard just below the surface and came clear of the water just before making his first run. Because of the long cast and the size of this fish, he nearly spooled me, but he didn't get loose when I had to put the brakes on him. It took nearly 20 minutes to beach him, then he promptly barfed up a pile of squid and silversides....hungry old sucker! It was a great day!
