Story: After bringing my uncle's caribou home we went back out on the Yukon River to a clear water tributary. We set up camp by dark, and were unable to go up river for an evening look. We woke up before the sun the following day. It was literally freezing out, there were ice crystals at the edge of the water. We started motoring up river as soon as we had enough light. We stopped at a likely spot, but were stopping to warm up as much to look in the clearing. We heard raking from across the river, sat in some brush and put out my best cow call. This big sucker came running out of the brush up river and across from us, with a cow in tow! He never stood a chance.
