Viktor and Sigrid of southern Sweden were on their way to their fishing hole when they came upon a moose stuck in ice.
After watching it make several failed attempts to get out on its own, the couple knew they had to help out.
Thankfully, they had a hand ax, and went to work chopping a path towards shore. I didn’t notice until a second viewing that both Viktor and Sigrid are wearing ice skates — making the task significantly more difficult AND dangerous.
At one point, the brave gal was just a few feet away from the thrashing moose — on dangerous ice no less. I can’t imagine a worse fate than ending up in the water with a scared moose. The ice skates certainly wouldn’t help.
They chopped a path and tried to encourage the moose out of the water by poking it and ‘speaking moose’ at it — Sigrid even tries to grab it by the scruff — but to no avail.
So they got back to chopping. “We took turns chopping for about 30 minutes before the moose was out of danger,” says Viktor, who posted the video to YouTube after the incident.
The moose, now completely exhausted, made its way to shore, found its legs, and ran off.
Nice job, guys!
