States Address CWD Threat

July 27, 2005 — With the 2005 deer seasons approaching, wildlife managers across the country are reviewing the spread and dangers posed by chronic wasting disease (CWD), the fatal disorder that affects the brain and nervous systems of cervids such as deer and elk. Biologists gathered last week to discuss the latest findings on the ailment, and some states have announced new regulations aimed at preventing CWD’s spread.
