More Than Just A Bear Hunt

During a fall 2012 bear hunting trip to pristine Northwest Ontario, I had a chance to witness a great deal of what this area has to offer. Though me and a buddy were after big Ontario bears, the trip turned out to be much more than a hunting trip. It was an awesome wilderness adventure!

Northwest For Caribou

On an arctic-cold September morning in the Northwest Territories, I was closer to the North Pole than the nearest tree, hunting what is aptly called barren ground caribou. I’d just spent an hour snaking through ankle-high berry bushes, only to see the animals bolt just as I reached shooting range — and simultaneously ran out of cover.

No Lie … On: Mountain Lions Are In Missouri!

After a century of denial, Missourians are coming to grips with the fact that the “Show-Me State” has wild mountain lions, despite a significant lack of real mountains. Wayne Henson trapped a 122-pound male in a large, cage-type live trap in January, 2012 — it was the first such documented lion in Missouri in modern times!

Fun With Caribou: Part 1

The most fun I’ve ever had hunting is going after caribou with my bow. I
mean, how else can you spend your life savings to risk your life
subsisting for a week on 40 pounds of provisions, all the time wet, cold, and
hungry while saber-toothed insects eat you alive?

Bullwinkles here. Nope, gigantic moose, as you’ll see on an upcoming episode of
our television show.

My Last Antelope Hunt

It took me 23 years to draw my first antelope tag, and now, 10 years later, I have drawn again. This tag is special for a couple of reasons. I know in another 10 years I will not be physically able to do this again, and I also have decided to use my son Gary’s rifle — he passed away unexpectedly a year ago. After three days of hunting in temperatures higher than 104 degrees,
and I’m ready to put an end to this hunt.

Hunting Thar In New Zealand

I had a couple days of work left before I could head out for a thar (also spelled “tahr”) hunt in New Zealand. Thar
are a type of mountain goat that is native to the Himalayan Mountains of Nepal and Tibet. The morning of the hunt was overcast with a little rain, which delayed both the hunt and arrival of our "New Zealand ATV" (actually a
helicopter!). It was one of the most exciting hunts I have ever gone on in the land down under!

The Birthday Impala

I was happy to get an Impala for my birthday a couple of years ago! I was in South Africa on a short work assignment at Mkuze Game Reserve. When the people responsible for bringing me to South
Africa found out, they asked what I would like for my birthday. My quick response was "I’d like to shoot something!"
