The island is in a bay off the Maine coast. I have come to the island to hunt. I get dropped off with my gear — a tent, sleeping bag, food, camping stove and archery equipment — and I am scheduled to be picked up in three days. What made me decide to go to this island alone?

Iowa: Whitetail Bowhunter’s Mecca

It began as a vision. Cornfields, now combined bare, as far as the eye could see. They were bare fields ringed by creekbottoms and fencelines where acres of deer concentrated in scant cover and provided the perfect bowhunting situation. Hunting those big cornfed Iowa bruisers had been my dream for a decade. Now it was finally going to happen!
