Shimano Cardiff Baitcasting Reel, Right Hand

Coming through with all the quality you expect from one of Shimano’s top-shelf reels, the makers behind the Cardiff Baitcaster know that fast retrieves are key for effective worm and jig fishing. This top-shelf reel provides that legitimate expectation via a number of features.

For starters, the A-RB (anti-rust bearings) are specially treated stainless steel ball bearings that are at least 10 times more corrosion-resistant than standard stainless steel ball bearings. That means less friction and a faster retrieve. The reel’s remarkable Variable Brake System uses centrifugal force rather than magnets to aid in controlling the cast for increased distance and adjustability. Handle side VBS allows you to adjust the VBS brake weights without removing the spool from the reel.

There’s more. The reel’s non-disengaging level windsystem (available only on models 400 and 401) allows the level windto track back and forth during the cast, which reduces drastic line angles that cause unwanted friction and backlashes on wide-spool reels.

A recessed reel foot (except on models 400 and 401) allows the reel to sit closer to the rod for comfort and maneuverability. Bottom line, that means extremely palmable feel, which increases comfort and maneuverability in sidearm casting or pitching situations. In addition, check out the three post quick take down (except on model CDF100A which is two-post) for fast maintenance or to adjust the VBS brake weights.

A bonus feature, a clicker (available only on models 400 and 401), increases the tension on free spool and activates a clicking alarm when a fish bites.

There are four right-handed Shimano Cardiff Baitcasting Reel models, all with four ball bearings and one roller bearing. They range in size from 8.1 ounces to 11.9 ounces, and the smaller three have fast 5.8:1 gear ratios and the largest a 5.2:1 ratio.
