Man Attacked, Pulled Off Kayak By Rabid Beaver

Michael Cavanaugh was kayaking on Irondequoit Creek in East Monroe County, NY. when he was attacked by one of the most dangerous animals known to man…the North American beaver.

Nate Reynolds, Baycreek Paddling Center trainer, witnessed the attack.

“I heard my name called out from the shop and I ran out the door to see a guy getting pulled into the water. It was like watching a horror film.” Reynolds told WHAM ABC 13.

After a few minute struggle, Cavanaugh was able to gain control of the situation by hitting the rabid animal several times with a paddle, eventually killing the beaver. Although he may have won the battle, Cavanaugh did not go unscathed. He was treated for bite wounds on his back and deep puncture wounds on his arm.
