Massachusetts Sets New Bear Hunting Season Nov. 30

Massachusetts black bear hunters will have another two weeks in the woods late this fall as a new season was announced this week by the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game.

This will be the third bear season in 2015 for Massachusetts bear hunters.

Tom's News Item on Massachusetts Sets New Bear Hunting Season 10-15The Department of Fish and Game announced that this bear season, new for 2015, will run from November 30 to December 12, the same time frame as shotgun deer season.

Participants in this hunt only can use a shotgun, muzzleloader or archery equipment. The shotgun must not be larger than 10-gauge including shotguns with a rifled bore, slugs only. Legal muzzleloaders are .44 to .775 caliber, and bows must have a draw weight of at least 40 pounds at 28 inches or peak draw. Crossbows may be used by permanently disabled persons by permit only.

All deer regulations apply during black bear hunting season.

Hunters must wear 500 square inches of orange on their chest, back and head. No rifles or handguns can be used while hunting bears.

To participate, hunters must sign up for a $5 permit with a limit of one bear per year.
