The northern pike is an aggressive species, but this is pretty unusual.
Fisherman Zach Brown had no sooner netted this nice-sized northern when it coughed up a half-digested rat.
Gross.
But not totally unheard of. Pike are ambush predators, holding perfectly still for long periods before darting out to snatch food. They typically eat smaller fish and frogs, but — unfortunately for this rat — they will eat small animals and birds.
