The United States Fish and Wildlife Service recently unveiled their plans to build a $2.8 million floating dock and fishing pier off the Detroit River in Trenton, Mich.

Trenton is about 20 miles southeast of Detroit.
The floating dock and pier will be part of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, a wildlife complex expected to see hundreds of thousands of visitors annually when completed, according to USFWS.
Some parts of the center have been under construction since last year, with major work being done to the shoreline and habitat nearby. Work on the pier is expected to start soon and be completed by the end of 2016 while the visitor center is scheduled to open in spring, 2017.
“Plans include a boardwalk extending 775 feet into the deep waters of the Detroit River with a width of 15 feet, a floating dock for the Michigan Sea Grant School Ship 100-feet-long by 15-feet-wide, and a fishing pier 225-feet-long and 15-feet-wide, able to accommodate up to 100 fishermen at once,” the Fish and Wildlife website says. “It will be free to the public and anglers of all skill levels.”
Some of the donors that helped the project meet its goal of $2.8 million include the Great Lakes Fisheries Trust, $600,000; Michigan Natural Resource Trust Fund, $500,000; Wayne County, $500,000 and $200,000 from CN Railroad.
