Ingredients:
1 deer heart, thinly sliced
1 lb. fresh mushrooms, thinly sliced
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1 tsp. minced garlic
2 T. butter
2 hoagy buns, split into halves
Sliced Swiss cheese
A-1 Sweet & Tangy optional
In large skillet, saute heart, mushrooms, onion and garlic in butter over medium heat until heart is medium-rare to medium doneness (do not overcook). Arrange buns, open-faced, on baking sheet. Divide heart mixture evenly between buns; top with sliced Swiss cheese. Bake at 350°F. until cheese melts. Serve open-faced, with A-1 sauce if desired.
This is a good snack during a late-night card game. Dealer calls high heart in the hole, and whoever has it has to make the sandwiches.
