Missed #1 because I never see their tracks, only their flight pattern, and #3 because we don’t have many White Tail here in Southern Idaho. I better brush up because I chose elk, which may explain why I had elk tag soup last year. ;-) Fun quiz!

Cool quiz missed#7 I choose Turkey. Are Turkey and Pheasant tracks the same looking just different size?

    Reply
    • Matt Dybedahl

Paul, glad you enjoyed our quiz. You’re also right about the turkey and pheasant tracks. They look almost identical except for size. I really should have added in some size references when I made this quiz.

I had a little trouble with the white track as in the photo it looks bigger than a average deer track, enjoyed the quiz and feel pretty good about getting them all right as I grew up and still live in the mountains of Utah. my dad one of the greatest generation started me outdoors probably by the time I was 2 or 3 ? Have always hunted mule deer and elk but never hunted whitetail. would like some advise on where I could probably get someone to steer me along or how to get started in any state. In Utah lots of open ground and public grounds I understand most whitetail hunting is done on private lands. How do I go about getting hold of a land owner who would let me hunt his ground?

Many of these require a reference to size which was not present. Would have scored 100% if there had been a size reference.

The Animal Track quiz was a good one with some challenge on certain tracks. Thanks for offering this to us old guys who used to spend many years out in the woods looking at many of these tracks.

Canid (#3) and feline (#8) tracks are hard without knowing track size. It’s great fun to walk in the woods after a fresh snow to see who’s paths you are crossing. Good quiz !

8/8 Living at the base of Mt. Rainier we see most of these tracks daily.

You needed to add something in the photos so you can determine the size of the tracks. Looking at a picture is not the same as seeing the tracks in the wild. In the wild you can determine the size of the tracks . You can’t determine the size of the track if there isn’t anything but the track in the picture. Fun quiz though. Thanks

That was a tough Quiz but very enjoyable. Thanks for the opportunity to test my identification skills. 7 out of 8 makes me feel like I have been around the block a few times. If there was a scale of the size of the tracks it would have been very useful. Great job though.
