Story: I was driving back to camp for lunch when this calf elk came out on the gravel road to cross to the other side. I stopped the truck and got my bow and arrows out, and as I started walking to it, it ran up in the woods and I took off after it. I gave a Hoochie Mama call and the elk came running down the hill toward me and stopped within 15 yards. I pulled back on my bow, shot and missed! It ran off so I called and it came back down the hill again. I nocked another arrow, shot and this time the elk reared on it back legs and fell over. My arrow went through a lung. I gutted it out and dragged it to the truck, went back to camp to skin it. It was my first elk with a bow arrow and man that meat taste good! I hope my luck is as good next year.
