Story: I have been hunting central Wyoming for 15 years ... BLM, Public ground scattered with oil wells. Trophies are few and far between. The Powder River in the valley is the safe haven for all deer as most is private. So, the tactic is to glass from the oil fields and watch for deer movement coming onto the BLM. This beauty was spotted coming up the draw from over 1,000 yards away. As bad as I wanted to move in, I couldn't. All I could do was watch and wait to see which cut he would finally take. After what seemed like all morning with him dropping in and out of sight, he finally came over to the public lands and the hunt was on! I used a small ridge to duck under and cut the distance to 300 yards. As I crawled up behind a nice large rock, ... to my surprise, I watched him turn into the valley below me. He passed by me just less than 200 yards away ... and the widest trophy I've ever taken in Wyoming was mine!
