This photo is from one morning on the way to scout some whitetails. I was driving through the Voldseth ranch outside of Lennep, Montana, and they had been hard at it all week, harvesting their hay. It was just the right light, as the sun had just started to creep over the Crazy Mountains. It made for quite a sight and I had to pull over and take in the view. I’d seen the hard work that went into these bails as I spent most the summer there managing the timber on the grounds, and as my work season had come to a close and I was waiting for opening day, it just seemed to wrap it all together and tell a story that maybe only a few would ever know.
